Course Description

Course Description:

The realm of pediatric occupational therapy can be daunting. Through experience, I have found that many children we serve in pediatrics are experiencing some sort of sensory integration dysfunction. If we have a more thorough knowledge base of sensory integration, we can more fully help those we serve, including children and their caregivers.

This course will help us clearly define sensory integration and receive an introduction to origins and theory, provide research-based neurologically-based concepts such as sensory support for development and brain function, explain why sensory integration is central to development and child occupations, go over sensory integration problems including modulation problems, poor sensory discrimination and perception, problems related to vestibular proprioceptive functions, and difficulties related to praxes, educate on how to accurately assess for sensory integrative functions including standardized testing and provide intervention guidelines for children with sensory integration problems.
